What I am working on now

This is a red dahlia that I grew last summer. Here the work as it progresses. Some of the changes from photo to photo are from different lighting conditions.
early stages

I am really happy with the lower left corner in the shot above; I like how the light seems to glow through the petals. I hope that I can manage not to lose that effect later.

This is how it stands now, though this photo is a bit washed out, not quite as vivid as in real life. I am afraid that it is a bit overworked in the center. My next step is to darken the green background. I think that will add to the drama of the lighting. We shall see...

2007 paintings Jan- May

Digby Marina at O'Neil's 21 x 29" 2007
Private Collection
This is one of my favourite paintings from last year. I have made it into giclee prints, available in 2 sizes, 7 x 10" and 10 x 14" (approx sizes). These are available either from BlueFin Fine Handcrafts and Gifts or directly from myself. Please feel free to contact me at the email address at the top of this blog.
This post has become to cumbersome to allow easily adding more pictures so I will add more of my 2007 paintings in a future post. Below are some of my 2007 paintings from early in the room. All paintings are available for purchase unless otherwise noted.

2006 in review

This space reserved for future use. As time permits I will add to it.

2005 in review

It has been interesting to go back an look at some of my older work. This is not a chronological listing of 2005 as I find that I cannot remember what I did when.
"Little River" 10 x 14" watercolour
Private Collection

"Little River Sketch I", 5 x 7" watercolour Private Collection

"Little River Sketch II", also 5 x 7" (I sometimes find naming these a chore , hence the boring names) "Iris ensata" 10 x 14"

Donated to Shoppers Drug Mart for their Tree of Life Campaign "Point Prim Light I" 10 x 14" watercolour
I did three of these, proving that even when I set out to do things differently, I still have a fairly consistent look. All three are in private collections.

"Nick with Grammy" 7 x 10" watercolour

"Poppy Seeds" 5 x 7 " watercolour

I have decided to keep this one. It was a pure pleasure to paint, one of those that just flowed off the brush almost of its own accord. It is on my business cards and other such materials.

Earlier Works to 2004

Please bear with me folks, I am reserving this space for future use. More works to follow as time permits. Here is what I think is one of my best early paintings:
Pointsettia 15 x 10", 2002
More works to follow as time permits.

A local view

Blueberrry Fields, Ridgeview, watercolour, 10 x 14"

This is a view that may be familiar to friends and family, though taken out of season. Bruce Gilliat's Ridgeview Farms is named for this view. The day I was there it was snowing quite heavily and the red branches of the blueberry bushes glowed against the fresh snow.

Oxen Commission

"Payzant's House with Oxen"

I have been struggling with this one for a while, I think it still needs a bit more work, but here it is as it is for now.

Welcome to my blog!

Happy New Year! I wanted to start a blog for my paintings this year and how better to start than with a snow picture...
Mom, Let's Go 4 x 6" watercolour 2008
This is Alice, waiting for me to get ready to go outside on Christmas Eve. I will use this avenue to post current paintings. As time permits I may add some older works too. Thanks for taking a look and feel welcome to comment.
